What is a Physician Assistant (PA)? Physician assistants are health care professionals licensed to practice medicine with physician supervision. As part of their comprehensive responsibilities, PA’s conduct physical exams, diagnose and treat illnesses, order and interpret tests, counsel on preventive health care, assist in surgery, and in most states can write prescriptions. Because of the close working relationship PA’s have with physicians, PA’s are educated in the medical model designed to complement physician training. PA’s work in concert with physicians to ensure the best possible care for patients in every practice setting. Their rigorous medical education, versatility, and commitment to personalized care help traditional practices function more fully and enhance continuity of care in the managed care environment. |
